2 die in plane crash in Thumb

The Federal Aviation Administration and the
National Transportation Safety Board are
expected at the scene of a fatal Michigan airplane
crash today, Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson
said in a news release.

The two people on board the two-seat plane
were killed when it went down in a field, he said.
A witness saw the plane crash south of
Sebewaing Airport, in Michigan’s Thumb, shortly before 6 p.m., the release said.
It appears the airplane was having mechanical
problems and may have been trying to return to
the airport according to witnesses, Hanson said.

The plane was destroyed by a fire that was put
out by the Sebewaing Fire Department.
The names of the deceased have not been
released.
Autopsies will be performed today by the Huron
County Medical Examiner, Hanson said.
