Blocked LAX emergency exits raise safety concerns

LOS ANGELES—Carts, boxes, bicycles and trash bags blocking emergency exits at Los Angeles International Airport are raising safety concerns.

KNX news radio is reporting Tuesday that photographs taken by an unidentified airport employee shows escape through emergency corridors could be difficult if there’s a fire, earthquake or terrorist attack.

Pictures were taken over a one year period, then again last week to show the problems haven’t been corrected.

Airport spokeswoman Nancy Castles examined the photographs and agreed the blocked exits are a problem. She thanked the KNX reporter for exposing the problem and says she will discuss it with airport operations.
