The Paragould Municipal Airport at Kirk Field was named 2010 airport of the year by the Arkansas Airport Commission at the regular meeting of the Paragould City Council on Monday night.
Dr. Bill Morgan said the airport’s additions, safety record and overall efficiency are reasons why the airport was chosen.
“It takes commitment from the community to have an airport like this,” Morgan said.
Mayor Mike Gaskill thanked the airport staff and board members for their service.
“Thank you guys for serving, we appreciate your dedication to the airport,” Gaskill said.
Gaskill told the council he received a letter from the Census Bureau stating Paragould had a return of 77 percent on Census surveys sent out earlier in the year. This is more than the overall average of 74 percent in other states and more than the state average of 69 percent, Gaskill said. He said this will help Paragould because the bureau will have a more accurate count of Paragould’s population.
The council also adopted a resolution setting the date of a hearing for Nov. 10 on a petition to abandon an alley located in block 10 of McDonald’s fourth addition.
The council adopted a resolution authorizing the mayor and city council to attach liens to certain properties for the purpose of collecting money which is owed to the city for enforcement of the city’s ordinance against nuisance properties.
Gaskill also reminded the public Paragould will celebrate Halloween on Saturday this year.
