10:01 AM EDT, June 22, 2010

Two federal workers were killed Monday when the small plane they were in crashed in Lock Haven.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service said Tuesday employees Dan Snider and Rodney Whiteman were killed along with the pilot. The name of the pilot has not been released.

Snider and Whiteman worked in the Forest Health program and were doing aerial pest detection surveys on federal land.

The single-prop Cessna went down about 1 p.m. on East Church Street in Lock Haven and burst into flames. The crash was just a block away from the William T. Piper Memorial Airport. Officials said the pilot had radioed the airport twice to ask about fuel and landing but said nothing about a problem.

The investigation into the crash continues.
