ATLANTA — A small plane caused a huge backup on Interstate 85 when it landed safely in the southbound lanes north of Atlanta just before 5 p.m. The plane had been heading to nearby Peachtree-DeKalb Airport.

Amazingly, no cars were hit when the plane landed just south of Shallowford Road.

“We got lucky,” said DeKalb County Officer Jason Gagnon.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said no one was hurt, but traffic backed up for miles.
